Wanted:  Osage orange or hedge log
08/01/14 at 16:04:29

If anyone ever runs upon a piece of hedge (osage orange) that they have to cut out of a fence row or find as a blow down, etc. I would like to have it.  I want to turn some mallets for carving/etc. but don't have any.  This is the stuff that hedge apples come from, if you didn't know.  We used to cut them from the woods in the winter and use them for fence posts.  They last forever...

This is similar to what I would use them for:

Thanks!

It's also call Bois d'Arc.  I have lots of it.  I probably won't make it to training day this month, but you're welcome to come by and cut all you want.  Otherwise, I'll try to bring a piece next time.

Thanks Vernon, I suppose for one tree I have to clean out a whole hedge row?  Shocked Shocked Shocked

I grew up in Missouri and this was the primary tree in the fence rows...never thought I would "want" some of it for anything...but it is good for mallets...
